    The school committee gave a cold shoulder to Mayor Susan Kay’s request for a 3.4 percent reduction in the FY09 school budget on Thursday, June 19. Committee members approved a motion to not accept any additional cuts to the school budget with a 4-1 vote. The committee’s action was a protest motion because the mayor can reduce a department’s budget under the town charter.
