| This is a great school. I speak not only as a parent but also as an educator. Great curriculum! |

Academia Semillas del Pueblo Elementary School, May 09, 2008 |
| I think it is a wonderful thing that ever happened if only there was more schools like that so children will feel safe and actually learn in such an environment. I totally agree with a few comments posted. I totally think that because of where this school is located it doesn't mean that they are racist in letting other children from other races attend this school. I could go on forever in my position but I just want to say that at least kids are being educated and off the streets and jails. Right now the two highest races in prison are African Americans and Hispanics. Furthermore, I feel that it is a good way to start keeping the Latinos off the prison system. |

Continue the school!, May 16, 2007 |
| I support this school that has taken the initiative to think outside the "box" that has allowed the Latino dropout rate to be as dismal today as it was 50 years ago. The public school system needs a new vision, Semillas del Pueblo-Adelante! |

In response to you all, May 02, 2007 |
| Some of you call this school racist. Well I'm sure most of may have not heard, that soon after the radio show, the school recieved a bomb threat, saying that they hoped it smelled like burnt tortillas. I myself have two nephews that attend the school. And two of my cousins work at the school. I have even done community service at the school. I can assure you all, that the enviroment is entirely positive and nothing is being taught to them which is in any way rascist. Many of you probably don't know of the curriculum of the school. They are taught four different languages, Spanish, English, Nahuatl, and Mandarin. Every morning they start their day with Tai Chi and end with dance. These children have been under attack for the past year by rascist remarks and actions. Yet nothing is being done. It has been a year since the bomb threat and the perpetrator has not been caught. Is this how we treat children? Sure their test scores may be low, but this school is still starting up. They will get better as time passes. But these negative comments will not help. I ask all of you to please open your minds. Think of the poor children going through so much, and the families that have suffered through all this hate. |

Ethnic school not "madraza", May 02, 2007 |
| So far I've only read negative comments about this school in your website. As a South American journalist, I am very interested in the matter. Why is it that you only post negative feed-back? I heard the 2 interviews of Mr. Agular on the radio this afternoon and he neither sounds angry nor racist. I also heard the parent's feed-back which sounded very happy with the schools ethics about peace and cultural diversity. I also agree with all of you that there should only be one human race, unfortunately only 20% of the people I interact with act likewise. Nobody wants to admit they are racists but most people have racist predjudices everywhere I go, not only in this country but also in South America. Please don't try to say that everything that this man states is false or that there is no racism at all among Americans. There is racism even in police profiling. Maybe this man's initiative is only like he states to give this children a better sense of worth. His school is certainly not a "madraza" (muslim school where children are taught to hate the US) nor his children deserve to be called terrorists. It's just an ethnic school and according to the civil rights and to the U.S. Constitution people in this country have the right to express their diversity. |

This school is necessary., Apr 30, 2007 |
| I believe so far everyone who has shared their thoughts regarding this school have a short narrow mind. A school like Semillas del Pueblo is not found anywhere else. This school educates children of the culture they come from as well as teaching them all aspects of other important cultures. I'm sure all of you who think this school is racist or otherwise unworthy to our society have never stepped foot in in this school, thus proving how uninformed you are about education. |

I go to Academia Semillas del Pueblo!, Feb 24, 2007 |
| We are not racist! The fact that we love our culture does not mean that we are racist! We do have asian, black and white kids and we have fun together. We do not fight with each other like other schools. I know. Those fake test scores that say that our score is 577 is a lie! Our scores are way higher than those phony test scores. My own family would say that the scores are higher than that without even looking or knowing what our scores are! I love my school and if it does not get renewed it will be devastating for everyone! Also if our school does not get renewed then I will be home schooled because these regular schools that some people say are better and they are not are so bad. My mom said she tought at another school near my house and said almost all the students there were acting HORRIBLE! Sincerely, Angel-Babie Gonzalez |

Rebuttal, Feb 08, 2007 |
| 1. Is it true that Academia Semillas del Pueblo (LAUSD), a Charter School headed by Marcos Aguilar, allows the teaching that Espanic/Native Americans are a "superior race" to other races, and nationalities? -no. 2. Is it true that a reporter attempted to get the truth, and was chased down, like an animal, and ordered to turn over his film, by a very large "thug" from this school? - no, the "reporter" was perceived by the community as a THUG and a pedophile. You don't go around filming children in a school! it's against the law. The THUG was not of the school. 3. Is it true that the Los Angeles School Police just stood by and allowed the attack to take place on this reporter? -there were no such "police" at that time. 4. Does ANY of the California taxpayer's money go toward funding of this charter school? -And many others? Your point? 5. Is this charter school teaching descrimination under the leadership of Marcos Aguilar? -As much as Marcos annoys me, no. I dunno what to say, other then that I know it doesn't. 6. Is it true that LAUSD is reveiwing the renewal of the "license to operate" Academia Semillas del Puelbo? -yes. There are many races (if you chose to call them that- I call them humans) at the school. Including a teacher of Madrian of Asian decent who's child goes to the school. She thanked me as I walked her to her car, preventing a white supremacist from assaulting her. Oh, and all the kids know english. |

LOOK AT THE LOCATION IDIOTS!, Jan 21, 2007 |
| This is not a racist school! I highly doubt that any of you actually live in El Sereno where the school is located. The fact that the majority of this students are Latino/Hispanic should not be shocking. THE MAJORITY OF EL SERENO IS LATINO/HISPANIC!!! What's wrong with that? Besides, you don't have to send your child to the school if you don't agree with the curriculum. There are other options in El Sereno. So I suggest for the people who choose not to appreciate the benefits of schools like Academia Semillas del Pueblo...go somewhere else so your children can remain blind to the oppression. Send your children to schools that are "traditional" and allow them to continue learning about the WHITE American history. The people who send their children to Semillas want their children to learn about THEIR ancestry, not their OPPRESSORS!!! So, if you all have such a great problem with Semillas...don't send your kids there, otherwise just leave Semillas alone to teach TRUE history and culture! |

It is good to know who you are and know that you are accepted., Oct 16, 2006 |
| I think it is very important that children in their early years feel that they are accepted for who they are. Many times the message in the mainstream culture is not that. If you are Mexican, you are a criminal and many times associated as an illegal and unwanted in this country. Many of these students grow up not wanting to be Mexicans because it is not good, according to the media and some politicians; therefore, I believe that Semillas del Pueblo is doing a good service to these students and parents who are taking the risk to do something different and challenge the system. It is important that students learn English; however, it is also important to learn content materials which you cannot learn when you are learning English in a mainstream school, unless there is a good program. English only is not going to help my children to make it in the modern world. There are a lot of people whose their only language is English, but they are not successful. A good citizen is formed of many different values and talents. Self-esteem is a great component of a person who is successful in this country. I am an elementary school teacher and I wish I could one day be teaching in a school like Semillas del Pueblo. Good job and do not get discouraged. If someone disagrees with what you do, it is because you are doing the right thing and they are afraid. If this was not important, nobody would care about what you are doing. "Dijo don Quijote, si los perros ladran es porque estamos caminando." I am not calling anyone dog I am just quoting Don Quijote. If people complain, it means you are doing something good. Congratulations! |
