Mom of an Honor Student at Upper Darby High School, Dec 05, 2008 |
| I never would have thought I would send my children to Upper Darby High School. I went to Catholic School and thought my kids would go there too. My oldest went to Catholic High School for freshman year and cruised through without being challenged at all. She decided to go to Upper Darby for Sophomore year and is a distinguished honors student with a 4.0 GPA and loves school. She loves that the school is so diverse and has many friends from different backgrounds. She has honors classes that challenge her every day. She plays sports. I tire of hearing people say that UD is a horrible school. I am here to tell you that in order to prepare your child for college, UD is the way to go. With block scheduling, it prepares students for what college is really like. As for discipline, there is plenty of that too. I think in some ways they are stricter than some of the other schools in the area. Sure there are problems, but there are problems in all schools. I sometimes think that there are more problems in the districts that have money and upper class students attending them as these kids feel " privileged" and deserve everything. I know my child is getting a premium education and will go on to be successful in the future. Test scores do not tell the whole story, if your child is a good student they will succeed anywhere. We love Upper Darby High School. |
