From a Former Metro Student, Jul 21, 2005 |

| My mother graduated from Metro in 1976, I in 2002, and my younger sister is currently a sophomore at Metro. I am now a senior at Fordham University in Bronx, New York with a full tuition grant. Although I complained a lot as a student at Metro--with regards to the very demanding course load--I couldn't have asked for a more nurturing, challenging, and rewarding high school experience. As a class and a school, we worked to implement change within our walls as well as the entire public school district, tackling pervasive issues of racism, sexism, and most notably, homophobia--for which we were met with and endured much hostility. Metro is an extremely safe and trusting place. It has a strict no tolerance policy for name calling or fighting and I actually never witnessed a single fight in the entire 4 years. It is a graduation prerequisite that Metro students complete several hundred volunteer hours and many of us far exceeded that set number. We also had 100% graduation rate. |
