It was never going to be an easy or popular decision. In the end, it was the decision the majority had to make. The Collier County School Board voted 3-1 Thursday afternoon to outsource custodial services to GCA Services Group. The fifth board member, Richard Calabrese, is recovering from a heart attack and was not at the meeting. Board member Kathleen Curatolo was the lone dissenter.

The Collier County School Board voted 3-1 to privatize custodial services today. Board member Kathleen Curatolo cast the dissenting vote, while Steve Donovan, Linda Abbott and Pat Carroll voted in favor of the measure. The board took a short recess immediately following the vote. Immediately before voting, several members in the audience booed and yelled out inaudible statements.
