Good School but Problems at Aberdeen High School, Nov 10, 2007
I attended Aberdeen High 2002-2006 and there were students who wanted to learn. Administration was more concerned with talking about their personal life, because as an office worker that was all I heard. Some of the teachers are dedicated to teaching students, but they have become familiar with the way the administration was. The principals were too busy flirting with each other and kissing each other's butts to care about the school's academics. Some of the students were a distraction for the teachers which can make it a bad learning environment. Personally, I think the parents that transfer their children to private schools makes the school look bad also. People see all the white teachers teaching just black kids and automatically think it is a horrible school.

Terrible Learning Atmosphere, ABERDEEN HIGH SCHOOL IN MISSISSIPPI, Sep 28, 2007
AHS IS A TYPICAL SOUTHERN HIGH SCHOOL. TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATION IS MOSTLY WHITE AND THE STUDENT BODY IS MOSTLY BLACK. WHEN I ATTENDED THERE, 1996-2000, TEACHERS WERE VERY UNMOTIVATED TO PERFORM THEIR JOB. WHY?? WELL LET'S SEE?? LET'S START WITH THE STUDENTS. 90% OF THEM WERE SO DISRUPTIVE IN CLASS THE TEACHERS COULDN'T TEACH. THEY WERE TOO BUSY TRYING TO KEEP MOST OF THEIR ROWDY STUDENTS UNDER CONTROL. BY THE END OF THE CLASS PERIOD LITTLE WAS ACCOMPLISHED. THE TEACHER(S) DIDN'T COVER WHAT ALL THEY WANTED TO COVER AND THE STUDENTS DIDN'T LEARN WHAT ALL THEY SHOULD'VE LEARNED. NEXT, THE INTRODUCTION TO UPGRADED COMPUTERS AND THE INTERNET. THIS IS ANOTHER REASON TEACHERS COULDN'T, OR BETTER SAID WOULDN'T PERFORM THEIR JOB. I RECALL AN ENGLISH TEACHER BY THE NAME OF MRS. GLORIA WILSON. I HAD MRS. WILSON'S CLASS 1ST PERIOD. UPON ARRIVAL OF MRS. WILSON'S CLASS, SHE WOULD TELL EVERYONE "GET SEATED AND GET READY TO PAY ATTENTION. ALL WERE GOING TO DO TODAY IS WATCH A MOVIE." AFTER WHICH SHE WOULD POP IN THE MOVIE, TURN OUT THE LIGHTS AND TAKE A SEAT AT HER COMPUTER. WHAT WAS MRS. WILSON DOING?? DURING THIS TIME IT WAS NOTICED BY EVERYONE THAT COMPUTER AND THE INTERNET WAS GOING TO PRETTY MUCH BE THE WAY THE WORLD TURNS. MRS. WILSON WAS TRYING TO GET MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE INTERNET SO SHE COULD POSSIBLY BE UP FOR A PROMOTION AT AHS OR TAKE A JOB ELSEWHERE WORKING IN THE RESPECTED PROFESSION. MRS. WILSON HAD THE RIGHT IDEA TO BETTER HER SKILLS ON THE COMPUTER, BUT STUDENTS SACRIFICED THEIR ABILITY TO LEARN ON ACCOUNT OF HER. FINALLY, THE OVERALL ATMOSPHERE OF THE SCHOOL WAS SORRY. THE MORAL AT THE SCHOOL WAS TO LOW TO DESCRIBE. WHEN IT WAS TIME TO SWITCH CLASSES, STUDENTS WOULD COME OUT INTO THE HALL AND BE JUST AS LOUD AS THEY WANT TO BE AND FIGHTS WOULD BREAK OUT. IT WAS BY FAR THE CRAZIEST STUFF YOU EVER WANT TO SEE. WE HAD A SRO, OFFICER RANDLE, AND HE WOULD URGE THE FIGHTS ON INSTEAD OF STOPPING THEM. PEOPLE THINK THAT BECAUSE ABERDEEN GOT GOOD SPORTS TEAMS THAT MAKES THE WHOLE COMMUNITY LOOK GOOD. BUT IF STUDENTS CAN'T GO TO SCHOOL AND FEEL COMFORTABLE AND SAFE ENOUGH TO LEARN, MAJOR CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE THROUGH OUT THE SCHOOL.
