    In a statewide contest for scholarship money, the north state is well represented. Four Shasta County students are finalists in six categories of the "Save Me a Spot in College" scholarship contest. Two others from Bieber and Eureka also made the cut.

    Burglars stole property from the Boys & Girls Club at Sequoia Middle School on May 9 or 10. A male, 26, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of an opiate at 8:15 p.m. May 12 in the 1600 block of Camino Olmo.

    More than 8,000 books have been collected as part of a major book drive, and kids from Redwood Middle School played a big part in reaching that number.
