Former Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Herzfeld has announced as a candidate for the county’s new circuit judgeship, which is nonpartisan. The position was created during the last legislative session.

Formed just this school year, the Benton High School robotics team won a title in the Mid-South BEST Regional robotic competition. And it was no easy feat to place second against eight other teams. BEST stands for boosting engineering, science and technology.

Veteran Jessieville boys basketball coach Eddie Lamb is the patriarch of local school basketball coaches. He is the lone survivor of last year's musical chairs in Jessieville and Fountain Lake. Jerry Chumley, former girls coach at Jessieville, moved on to take the same position at Benton High School.

Benton School Board is expected to decide tonight whether to move the district’s 2008 graduation ceremony to a Little Rock location. The issue was presented by representatives of the senior class in a previous meeting, but no decision was made at that time.

Mass Brass will present its first concert of the 2007-08 season at 3 p.m. Sunday at Butler Auditorium on the Benton High School campus. Mass Brass, under the direction of Dr. Wes Branstine, is a 21-piece brass choir with percussion.
