    CHEYENNE - The sixth-penny committee identified $24.6 million in projects it could trim from its list. After their work Tuesday night, the slate of proposed projects for the May 6, 2008, ballot shrank from $131 million to $106.4 million.

    CHEYENNE - Middle- and high-school students in Wyoming drink less than teens surveyed in 1995. But their alcohol use remains high. In 2007, 42.4 percent of high-school students had at least one drink in the past 30 days, according to the 2007 Wyoming Youth Risk Behavior Survey results.

    CHEYENNE - All but holding their noses before voting, the City Council agreed Monday to beef up payments to the Jeffrey J. Wardle Academy to $10,200 a month for the next six months to provide juvenile detention services. That's about a $6,000 increase.

    In all, the city of Cheyenne is seeking $60 million in projects to appear on the sixth-penny sales tax ballot. The crown jewel is a new recreation center; this incarnation has been talked about and planned since 2005.

    Mary E. Stevens, 87, of Pine Bluffs, died Nov. 19, at Cheyenne Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Cheyenne. Mary had lived in Pine Bluffs for about 55 years. Both she and her husband, Robert were born, raised and had lived their lives in Laramie County.
