Daughter of the late Elliehue Gaston and the late Laura Sutson Gaston, she was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Cherokee County. She was a member of Trinity A.M.E.

    Cherokee County Council has approved first reading of a new inducement agreement for The Timken Company in Gaffney. The agreement would grant tax breaks for the plant that manufactures tapered roller bearings and would continue a 10-year fee-in-lieu tax agreement that is about to expire.

    The state Department of Commerce presented Cherokee County with a $428,000 federal grant Thursday to extend public water service to the Ninety-Nine Island Road area. The area is one of the few remaining places in the county where low-income residents do not have public water access.

    A flat tire turned into a nightmare for a Maryland couple making their way through Cherokee County on Wednesday afternoon. While the couple's minivan was pulled off to the side of Interstate 85 near the 94 mile marker at about 4:40 p.m. for a tire change, a second vehicle slammed into the rear of their vehicle.

    A burglar caused about $300 in damage to a King's Creek Ford Road home recently. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone broke into the home in the 100 block by kicking open a door. Nothing appeared to be missing from the interior.

    Registration is now underway for classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles to be entered into the annual Fall Classic Car Show at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum. The event, scheduled for Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., has continued to grow each year. More than 100 trophies will be presented this year.
