CADDO — Gunfire erupted 30 years ago Monday in this small peaceful Bryan County community. “Killers Claude Dennis and Michael Lancaster died in the yard of a Caddo home this morning,” read the Friday, May 26, 1978, edition of the Durant Daily Democrat. “It cost the lives of three highway patrolman.”

Durant Mayor Jerry Tomlinson, who served on the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center Initiative Grant, and Billy Mickle, chairman of the committee, presented plans for a new library and asked for funding from Donald W. Reynolds Foundation trustees this morning in Las Vegas, Nev. The building will cost $8 million and, if approved, will be located on 14th and Main streets.
