    A Zanesville soldier killed in Iraq last week will be laid to rest in Washington County, and residents are invited to help honor his memory. Pfc. Kyle Phillip Norris, 22, of Zanesville died May 23 in Balad, Iraq, from wounds suffered a day earlier when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device during a patrol in Jurf as Sakhr, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

    A former Washington County sheriff's deputy was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on probation for a year after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to child endangerment charges. Former Deputy Jeffrey R. Morris resigned from the sheriff's office in January after he was accused of leaving his 8-year-old son at home alone with loaded guns present.

    A Belpre man will spend the next five years in prison for leading police in a high-speed pursuit with two infants in his car last summer. Chad W. Williams, 26, of 517 Barclay St., said he was sorry for his actions and begged for mercy. He has spent the past eight months in jail awaiting the outcome of these charges and said he has had nothing to do but think.
