    DAKOTA CITY - Prompted by questions from the county engineer and county auditor, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors took another look at the county's smoking ban on Monday. Humboldt County Engineer Paul Jacobson said he and Humboldt County Auditor Peggy Rice both had questions about the county's policy.

    A two-vehicle accident Saturday morning resulted in six people being transported to hospitals. According to the Iowa State Patrol report on the accident, a 2004 Ford F150 driven by Larry Minikis, 54, of Thor, was eastbound on 100th Street and struck broadside, at an uncontrolled intersection, a 2000 GMC Yukon driven by Michael Johnson, 41, of Vincent.

    DAKOTA CITY - A full courtroom listened intently as a Humboldt man was sentenced to 50 years in prison for second-degree murder Monday morning in Humboldt County. William Shekey, 20, was found guilty for the death of Michael Lee Ruberg, of Dakota City, during a bench trial on Aug. 5.

Ruberg, 41, died at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital after fighting Shekey at a party in Rutland on April 5.

    DAKOTA CITY - Soon groups will gather for prayer on the grounds of the Humboldt County Courthouse. Jeanette Johnson, Humboldt, asked the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors for permission for a group to gather at the Courthouse weekly for public prayer. A group gathers regularly at the state Capitol for prayer, she said. There had been a prayer group meeting in her home for 12 years.
