Pennsylvania School Rankings
Pennsylvania Public K-12 School Rankings are based on data from the
Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Test provided by the
Pennsylvania Department of Education.
There are two sets of rankings:

Standard Rankings
are based on the following:
- Elementary Schools:
The Percentages of Students at Advanced Level in Math and Reading for 3rd and 5th graders.
- Middle Schools:
The Percentages of Students at Advanced Level in Math and Reading for 8th graders.
- High Schools:
The Percentages of Students at Advanced Level in Math and Reading for 11th graders.
You have the option of (i) Ranking all schools in the State
of Pennsylvania (choose "All Counties" in the toolbar to the left),
(ii) Comparing individual counties (choose "County Vs. County"), and
(iii) Comparing all schools in a given county (choose, for example,
"Philadelphia" County).
To view FREE public school rankings from a prior year, simply
click on the "Rank" button on the toolbar to the left. The
most recent rankings are available for subscribers only.

Customized Rankings (Subscribers Only)
are based on the following:
- Elementary Schools:
Can choose between Advanced Level or Proficient Level.
Can choose either Math or Reading or both.
- Middle Schools:
Can choose between Advanced Level or Proficient Level.
Can choose either Math or Reading or both.
- High Schools:
Can choose between Advanced Level or Proficient Level.
Can choose either Math or Reading or both.
With the Customized Ranking, you can choose any or all of the counties.

Notes:
- Grade level distributions are not consistent throughout
Pennsylvania. For example, fifth graders are in elementary schools in
some areas; but in other areas, they are in middle or junior high schools.
This site classifies elementary schools as those with fifth graders,
middle schools as those with eighth graders, and high schools as those
with eleventh graders. Some schools may be classified in more than
one category.

Average Scaled Scores are no longer used in 2005. They were used between
2001 and 2004, but have been dropped by teh PA Department of Education.
