New York School Rankings

New York Public K-12 School Rankings are based on data from the School Report Card provided by New York State Education Department . There are two sets of rankings:

  • Standard Rankings:

      Kids
    • Elementary Schools: Percentage of 4th grade students at the Advanced (L4) level in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
    • Middle Schools: Percentage of 8th grade students at the Advanced (L4) level in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
    • High Schools: Percentage of test takers at the Advanced (85-100) level in Regents Examinations in English, US History and Government (USHG), and Global History (GLHIST).

    You have the option of (i) Ranking all schools in the State of New York (choose "All Counties" in the toolbar to the left), (ii) Comparing individual counties (choose "County Vs. County"), and (iii) Comparing all schools in a given county (choose, for example, "Suffolk" County). To view FREE public school rankings from a prior year, simply click on the "Rank" button on the toolbar to the left. The most recent rankings are available for subscribers only.   • Customized Rankings (Subscribers Only) are based on the following:

      Learning
    • Elementary Schools: Performance for 4th graders in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, or both. Choose between Advanced (L4) level, Proficient (L3) level and above, or Basic (L2) level and above. Also, performance index is available for years 2001 and 2002.
    • Middle Schools: Performance for 8th graders in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, or both. Choose between Advanced (L4) level, Proficient (L3) level and above, or Basic (L2) level and above. Also, performance index is available for years 2001 and 2002.
    • High Schools: Performance for Regents Examination in English, US History and Government (USHG), and Global History (GLHIST). Choose between Advanced level (85-100), Proficient level and above (65-100), or Basic level and above (55-100). Also, performance index is available for years 2001 and 2002.

Notes:
  • Results presented on this site are for All Students; we do not break down the results for different racial/gender/economic groups.
  • Results are not reported for schools with less than 20 students enrolled. Therefore, small schools are not included here.
  • Performance index for New York City High Schools are not included in the 2002 Rankings.
