Minnesota School Rankings

Minnesota Public K-12 School Rankings are based on data from the School Report Cards provided by Minnesota Department of Education. There are two sets of rankings:

  • Standard Rankings:

      Kids
    • Elementary Schools: Percentage of students at Level 4 (Exceeding Standard) in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades Reading and Math.
    • Middle Schools: Percentage of students at Level 4 in 7th and 8th Grades Reading and Math.
    • High Schools: Percentage of students at Level 4 in 10th Grade Reading and 11th Grade Math.

You have the option of (i) Ranking all schools in the State of Minnesota (choose "All Counties" in the toolbar to the left), (ii) Comparing individual Counties (choose "County Vs. County"), and (iii) Comparing all schools in a given county (choose, for example, "Hennepin" County). To view FREE public school rankings from a prior year, simply click on the "Rank" button on the toolbar to the left. The most recent rankings are available for subscribers only. Subscription fee is $8.33/month (1-year term). Sign up here.

  • Customized Rankings (Subscribers Only) are based on the following:

      Learning
    • Elementary Schools: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades Reading and Math; Percentage of students at Level 4; Percentage of students at Level 3 and above; Percentage of students at Level 2 and above; Average score for all students.

    • High Schools: 10th Grade Reading and 11th Grade Math; Percentage of students at Level 4; Percentage of students at Level 3 and above; Percentage of students at Level 2 and above; Average score for all students.

With the Customized Ranking, you can choose any or all of the counties. Subscription fee is $8.33/month (1-year term). Sign up here.

Notes:
  • Results presented on this site are for All Students; we do not break down the results for different racial/gender/economic groups.
  • In 2006, the MN Department of Education changed the grading scale. The new grading scale is:
    • Level 4: Exceeds Standard
    • Level 3: Meets Standard
    • Level 2: Partially Meets Standard
    • Level 1: Does Not Meet Standard
  • Prior to this, the grading scale was:
    • Level 5: Superior Performance Beyond Grade Level
    • Level 4: Working Above Grade Level
    • Level 3: Solid Grade Level Skills
    • Level 2: Partial Knowledge and Skills
    • Level 1: Gaps in Knowledge and Skills
The performance levels for 2005 should not be compared to the same levels for 2006 because performance standards have been changed.
