Maine School Rankings

Maine Public K-12 School Rankings are based on data from the Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) Scores provided by the Maine Department of Education. There are two sets of rankings:

  • Standard Rankings:

      Kids
    • Elementary Schools: Average Scaled Score in Reading and Mathematics for Grades 3, 4 and 5.
    • Middle Schools: Average Scaled Score in Reading and Mathematics for Grades 7 and 8.
    • High Schools: Average Scaled Score in Reading, Mathematics and Writing for Grade 11.

    You have the option of (i) Ranking all schools in the State of Maine (choose "All Counties" in the toolbar to the left), (ii) Comparing individual counties (choose "County Vs. County"), and (iii) Comparing all schools in a given county (choose, for example, "Cumberland" County). To view FREE public school rankings from a prior year, simply click on the "Rank" button on the toolbar to the left. The most recent rankings are available for subscribers only. Subscription fee is $8.33/month (1-year term). Sign up here.


  • Customized Rankings (Subscribers Only) are based on the following:

      Learning
    • Elementary Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Reading; Percentage of Students who met standards in Reading; Average Scaled Score in Reading; Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Mathematics; Percentage of Students who met standards in Mathematics; Average Scaled Score in Mathematics; Grades 3, 4, and 5.
    • Middle Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Reading; Percentage of Students who met standards in Reading; Average Scaled Score in Reading; Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Mathematics; Percentage of Students who met standards in Mathematics; Average Scaled Score in Mathematics; Grades 7 and 8.
    • High Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Reading; Percentage of Students who met standards in Reading; Average Scaled Score in Reading; Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Mathematics; Percentage of Students who met standards in Mathematics; Average Scaled Score in Mathematics; Percentage of Students who exceeded standards in Writing; Percentage of Students who met standards in Writing; Average Scaled Score in Writing; Grade 11.

Notes:
  • Results presented on this site are for All Students; we do not break down the results for different racial/gender/economic groups.
  • Results are not reported for schools with less than 5 students. Therefore, small schools are not included here.
  • County scores are calculated from the average scores of schools in the county. This may not represent the true test results for the counties since student population varies from school to school.
