Illinois School Rankings

Illinois Public K-12 School Rankings are based on the Report Card provided by Illinois State Board of Education. There are two sets of rankings:

  • Standard Rankings:

      Kids
    • Elementary Schools: The percentages of third and fifth graders who are at Level 4 (Exceed Standards) on the Reading, Mathematics, and Writing tests. Results are from the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).
    • Middle Schools: The percentages of eighth graders who are at Level 4 (Exceed Standards) on the Reading, Mathematics, and Writing tests. Results are from the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT).
    • High Schools: The percentages of eleventh graders who are at Level 4 (Exceed Standards) on the Reading, Mathematics, and Writing tests. Results are from the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE).

You have the option of (i) Ranking all schools in the State of Illinois (choose "All Counties" in the toolbar to the left), (ii) Comparing individual counties (choose "County Vs. County"), and (iii) Comparing all schools in a given county (choose, for example, "Cook" County). To view FREE public school rankings from a prior year, simply click on the "Rank" button on the toolbar to the left. The most recent rankings are available for subscribers only. Subscription fee is $8.33/month (1-year term). Sign up here.

  • Customized Rankings (Subscribers Only) are based on the following:

      Learning
    • Elementary Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: 3rd grade Reading, Mathematics, and Writing; 4th grade Science and Social Science; 5th grade Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Can choose between Level 4 (Exceeding Standards) or Level 3 or 4 (Meeting or Exceeding Standards).
    • Middle Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: 7th grade Science and Social Science; 8th grade Reading, Mathematics, and Writing. Can choose between Level 4 (Exceeding Standards) or Level 3 or 4 (Meeting or Exceeding Standards).
    • High Schools: Can choose any or all of the following: 11th grade Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Science, and Social Science; Can choose between Level 4 (Exceeding Standards) or Level 3 or 4 (Meeting or Exceeding Standards).

With the Customized Ranking, you can choose any or all of the counties. Subscription fee is $8.33/month (1-year term). Sign up here.

Notes:
  • Results presented on this site are for All Students; we do not break down the results for different racial/gender/economic groups.
  • County scores are calculated from the average scores of schools in the county. This may not represent the true test results for the counties since student population varies from school to school.
  • Several schools are placed in the wrong counties. This is especially true for those schools in Lake and Kane Counties.
