Better Now Then It Used To Be, Sep 12, 2009 |
| I was a West Reading kid that was a part of the merger back in the 1980's between Wyomissing Area High School and West Reading Schools, and I can tell you that things may not be perfect today, but they are better now then they were. The kids that lived in West Reading who now went to Wyomissing were considered by many to be "low lifes", druggies, "trouble makers", etc. My sons are enrolled in Wyomissing now and I hear about the "cliques" and it's very unfortunate, but I don't know of a school that doesn't have them. As far as the education goes I always found it to be excellent. And coming from someone who would have rather been doing anything else then sitting in school, I managed to get an excellent education. Maybe we all should worry a little less about what the jones and smiths of the world have and concentrate on whats important, and that's learning. |

Wyomissing Area High School, Feb 20, 2008 |
| OK, first of all, you don't need a lot of money to live here in Wyo. I'm not going to deny the fact that many of its residents are well off, but I have plenty of friends who ask to eat in rather than go out because they have yet to receive their pay check for the week. I think that grouping and stereotyping the entire area as a certain way such as "perfect" or "uptight" is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. As for our sporting events, you get kids that drive over an hour to football or soccer games with their faces painted screaming for their classmates. Not to mention, the addition of a school mascot who frequently makes appearances at games and events. We all agree that the education here more than prepares you for down the road, but I think it's a shame that your family has been that isolated from the community. Wyomissing has to offer that you feel it's not worth the move. Perhaps if you look around, maybe you'll realize it's just you. And if you still haven't realized that your being completely arrogant, then maybe you should just move because people like you make our school the way your describing it. |

Ditto, good education, poor and painful socialization, Sep 01, 2006 |
| We have lived in Wyomissing for over 6 years and have been involved in sports and community activities. We find the area high strung, and rather uptight and while our children do excel in school, but socially, ironically, they are under enormous social pressure unique to this area as compared with other areas in Berks County. It's just not worth it. Don't move here unless you feel superior and perfect. We are not convinced that this district offers unparalled education to outweigh the social disadvantages and disfunction we've experienced here. We have had enough and do not want to raise kids in such an intolerant and cold area. Just go to a Wyomissing field sports event and notice the complete lack of school spirit. Wyomissing is so uptight and perfect, no one dares crack a smile or shout at an event. It's very sad. |

Good education, bad socialization, Mar 28, 2005 |

| The education I received at Wyomissing High School was surely top-notch. However, the breakdown of the students into cliques is unparalleled anywhere. The social structure is so rigid you would think there were laws against violating it. |
