We are parents of 16 yr old girl and 18 year old son and moved to Acton three years ago. My daughter finds the school academically challenging, yet good. My son has learning disabilities. This school is not prepared or focused upon special needs students. They thrive upon success, and devote the time and energy of the entire school to hyperachievement. Parent advocacy is discouraged in spite of a 2004 parent study indicating that there were numerous parents facing similar issues with interpretation of Public Law, the need and administering for testing, and "Least Restrictive Environment/Free and Appropriate Education" considerations. Civil Rights issues are laughed at. The ABHS administration will probably applaud this write up, for it will discourage families with special needs from registering into a hyperachiever system. ACTON-BOXBOROUGH IS A GOOD SCHOOL, BUT IT GROSSLY LACKS IN SPECIAL NEEDS SUPPORT AND INTEREST and fights parents to the hilt on support. |
