As a teacher at Sandy Creek High School, I can attest to the downward spiral this once great school is now trapped in. It's sad to observe it on a daily basis.

I AM Being Honest!, Aug 14, 2007
In a recent edition of the most widely read Fayette County newspaper, the headlines featured a serious drug bust (white collar drugs!!) at McIntosh HS that involved some underclassmen. A few pages into that same issue, there was a story about a future physicist who was a senior honors student at Sandy Creek HS. This young man of color was headed to a university that was one of 16 universities to which he was accepted. He chose to study physics on a full academic scholarship and turned down out of state universities that offered to waive his out of state tuition! In addition, Sandy Creek HS produced over $5M in scholarship/grant money (merit scholarships not financial aid!!) with the Class of 2007, which included the coveted Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship! The school won the Math Olympiad (not the HS football crown although it did take the AAA State Track and Field Championship along with the Regions and County track and field Championships!) Calvin Johnson's little brother graduated with honors along with 80+ other students, including a young girl who just turned 16, was featured live on the "Today Show" (NYC), and who is headed to Northwestern University! The valedictorian's speech should have been published in Newsweek because it was that good, real, and applicable! Yes, Sandy Creek has changed and it just gets better and better! Take it from a former home school mom who has been a part-time faculty instructor at the college level for the last 25 years! Those of us who are proud to be associated with this school and some of the finest teachers, including the "Georgia Teacher of the Year" who makes brings Economics (a required HS course) alive in the classroom, and who do not teach at Sandy Creek, are thankful when those who do not appreciate the diversity the school has to offer, leave! Keep on stepping!

Let's be honest, May 09, 2007
My oldest daugther has been at Sandy Creek since 2004 and I loved it in the beginning. If she wasn't graduating in 2008, I would pull her out. My son who has been there just 2 years will be pulled out. The rantings has gone down. While Sandy Creek has spotlighted great students such as Calvin Johnson, please update your censors to reflect current ratings. I'm pretty sure the standing aren't the same since 2005. In over 2 years it has changed and I can imagine what the next 2 years will bring. I know the dropout rate is higher, even if Sandy Creek don't state it. If enrolling your child, please do research by questioning students and parents in the neighborhood. Do not take the school's staff word for it. They're suppose to say nice things. If anything, ask a teacher who works there if they would enroll their child into Sandy Creek. If so, it's most likely because the parent works there.
