Why I am considering homeschool or private school, Aug 02, 2006
West Newton was wonderful during the first two years that my daughter attended. During the 2005/2006 school year, things went downhill. The principal, who was there previously and brought the school down before, was brought back in last year to replace a much better principal who switched schools. Since then, there has been a large amount of teachers who quit, leaving the school with a huge shortage this school year. To add to the shortage, there has also been a rather large jump in enrollment.

This is the fourth day of the 2006/2007 school year, and I have had nothing but problems from my daughter's teacher. My daughter has come home from school complaining about her teacher yelling at the class all three days before today. This morning, I received a phone call from my daughter's teacher asking if my daughter had an attitude problem because she was being slow at getting her school work done. This is the fourth day of school! Kids are still in a transistion from summer, adjusting to a new school schedule. And the only attitude I am receiving is from the teacher, who even gave me an attitude when she called!

I now have two children enrolled at West Newton. Both are very advanced and tend to be ahead of their class. Neither child is being challenged to their full potential, and West Newton cannot fulfill their needs as students.

Last year, there were several problems that I tried contacting the principal about. She would not respond to numerous attempts, and I had to contact the superintendent of schools in order to get a response.

I was hoping this school year would be better, but I am seeing that there is no improvement this year as of yet. If things do not improve fast, my children will be taken out of West Newton and either enrolled in private school or will be home schooled, so that I can make sure their needs are being met!
