Jefferson Elementary School, Jan 14, 2009
This is a hard school to get into and hard to stay in. The principal is allowed to send home letters giving parents less than a week to move a child out of the school due to moving out of the district, even if it is within feet. This is not enough time for a parent to find before school, after school, child care, vacation care, etc for a child, especially in this area, as there is very minimal available. There is discrimination at this school in that there are students attending the school who do not live in the district, but still attend the school, while others are basically "dismissed" because they do not live in the district. How can this be fair? A child who started the year at the school and moves should be allowed to stay, as long as the parent is willing to bring the child to school and pick them up, or make arrangements for someone to pick them up. It is one thing to force a child to change schools if they move out of state, but to move a few feet or miles away, is disruptive to the child's learning.
